Cradle Snatchers

A bit of Crime Prevention advice for you all today. I am sick to death of examining cars that have had Sat Navs stolen from within. Sat Navs at the moment are the Swag De-Jour, mainly because they are easy to steal and are in high demand at low local junkie prices.

If you have a Sat Nav, don't advertise the fact by having a you cradle suckered to the windscreen, don't think you are being clever by taking it out if the cradle and hiding it in the glovebox or under the seat. Local scroates may not be on front pages of Mensa Monthly but they are not stupid, unfortunately some members of the public clearly are.

So if you are one of the many drivers incapable of reading an A-Z or a consumer of the must have in car gadgets then do me and my many colleagues a favour when alighting from your vehicle, remove your cradle, wipe off the sucker mark and take you Sat Nav with you!

(Can you tell I spent most of today looking at car windscreens)

I can't so frustrated with my mum the times she gets out of the car and leaves her mobile in the front well.

The amount of cars you see every day with Sat Navs on show I am not surprised it's what ties up your time.

I remember a few years ago I got my car broken into and I had removed the front from the stereo and taken it with me, they ended up taking ripping the stereo out and routing round for the front, including leaving the glove box open.

So it was a pointless task for them but obviously they think we are all daft, unfortunately though it would have worked with a lot of poeple..xx

I find that even the suction mark left on the windscreen when the cradle is completely removed is often enough to get the window put in.

Silly really.

Now I am joining the modern world and have an ipod with some little device to allow it to play through the car stereo, I can now improve the security of my car. Keep nothing of value in it. No CD's, sat nav or anything else. I take my ipod with me as its nice and small and leave the glove box open so jonny scroat can see I have nothing to take and it gets left alone. Ok, we shouldn't have to worry aout doing these things, but we do so get over it and just do it.

I have no option but to leave my car parked in a somewhat less than salubrious area where thefts from cars are the growth industry. I make sure that I leave on display the following items: a crumpled 4 days old copy of the 'Sun', 2 empty wrappers of Aldis sausage rolls and a cheap 'cover version' CD of Kylie Minogue. Touch wood but my car has not been touched in 7 months. The fact that it's a Daewoo may also have something to do with it.
